ELECTRIC WATER HEATING GETS SMART

Connected home technology is constantly evolving, with developments such as voice control, learning and interconnected devices continuing to evolve and play key roles in everyday life. While the Internet of Things (IoT) has become a common part of lighting and home security controls, it’s also making a mark within the world of electric water heating. The ability to use an app to programme and get real-time performance data offers benefits to manufacturers, plumbers and consumers alike.

Before apps and the IoT, you could only manually set water heaters physically – there were no means available to adjust or manage units remotely. Now, you can do this from your smartphone without even being home – or even ask your voice assistant (such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home) to do the honours.

Take our Aqua Ariston Net app, for example. Compatible with our Velis Evo Wi-Fi electric water heater, it provides full control and monitoring from the palm of your hand. You can scroll through different modes and turn the electric water heater on remotely for a hot shower at the perfect time. Also, as with the majority of smartphone apps designed for home appliances, you can benefit from up to date advice on energy saving to help reduce running costs; in fact, with Aqua Ariston Net, you can monitor energy consumption and achieve savings of up to 25% using daily and weekly programming!

There’s also the additional benefit of diagnostic tools that can minimise or eliminate having to call out an engineer for repairs. In the event of a smart electric water heater developing a fault, a notification will appear on your phone displaying an error code to help identify the problem. If the issue cannot be rectified remotely and a technician is required, they will already know the diagnosis – avoiding the need for multiple call-outs.

Safe and secure

If you’re worried about connecting to your electric water heater via the internet, rest assured that all smart apps require the necessary security protocols before they can be rolled out. Manufacturers will regularly update their software to ensure functionality and security isn’t compromised. Our own apps have been specifically created for Ariston products, so we will always be focussed on improving and updating them accordingly.
