COP26 AND THE ROAD TO NET ZERO

ariston | modified: 10 November 2021

COP26, The UN Climate Change Conference continues in Glasgow this week as delegates from across the world look to drive change to slow the affects of global warming. Last Thursday was dubbed “Energy Day” at the conference as parties discussed the issues surrounding energy and voices called for an end to use of coal, gas and oil. According to the UN:

“A group of governments and public finance institutions across the world, including in the US, European Union, Canada and UK, have pledged to end direct support for the ‘unabated’ fossil fuel energy sector by the end of 2022.”

While commitments such as these are a real step in the right direction such news may leave UK customers confused as to the future of home heating. Following on from news which broke in May that gas boilers could be banned in the UK by 2025, we believe consumers need more clarity on how the governments road to net zero may affect them.

The Road to Net Zero

The International Energy Agency (IEA) suggests that no new fossil fuel boilers should be sold from 2025 if the world is to achieve net-zero emissions by the middle of this century. This is just one of many steps on the road to net-zero that the UK government is championing.

With sustainability at the heart of everything we do at Ariston, we fully support the drive towards energy efficiency. An increased commitment towards low carbon technologies at government level can only benefit our industry in terms of future investment and planning.

Don’t Panic

Consumers should not panic about their natural gas boilers though as they wont be banned in 2025. New build homes are likely to feature renewable heating technology such as heat pumps and Hydrogen ready boilers will become more readily available.

Switching from a natural gas boiler to a Hydrogen ready boiler or a heat pump will be a gradual process and the government are already unveiling programmes such as the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

In the meantime, households that already have an Ariston unit from our current range fitted, such as a boiler from our trusted ONE Series or one of our energy efficient electric water heaters, can rest assured that our products are designed to be as energy saving as possible. In addition, our boiler controls support your system even further with modulating functionality instead of simple on/off technology and our apps, Ariston NET for heating and Aqua Ariston NET for water heating, provide you with full control over your usage which consequently helps to save energy while keeping you comfortable.

Book a Service to Ensure Your Boiler is Running Efficiently

We’ll be sharing a series of energy saving blogs over the coming weeks packed with hints and tips to help you do your bit to minimise the carbon footprint from your heating and hot water. In the meantime though, one of the best ways to save energy at home is to have your boiler serviced. By having your boiler serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer not only are you helping to keep your home gas safe but you’ll have peace of mind that your boiler is running as efficiently as possible.

Find an installer near you and book your boiler service by entering your postcode in our “Find an Installer” directory.
