Ariston has welcomed the announcement of ‘Boiler Plus’ by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which sets out a future direction for UK decarbonisation.*
The policy requires a new minimum performance standard for domestic gas boilers in English homes of 92% ErP, in line with the EU’s 2020 carbon reduction targets. The legislation also requires all those installing new combination boilers to include either flue gas heat recovery, weather compensation, load compensation or smart controls with automation and optimisation functions as part of a heating system.
Commenting on the new standards, which come into effect in April 2018, Alex Boweren, Product Manager at Ariston, said: “Boiler Plus is an excellent idea which, as a leading heating technology manufacturer, we fully support. It is vital for modern gas boilers to perform at the highest levels of efficiency, and setting a minimal ErP rating of 92% should ensure this is the case, as it will remove inefficient products from the market. We have always encouraged installers and consumers to invest in our latest condensing gas boilers, due to the economic and environmental savings available.” p>
He continued: “In addition, our latest range of Cube S NET smart controls already have the necessary weather and load compensation capabilities, as well as the automation and optimisation functions stipulated by Boiler Plus. Not only does the Cube S NET enable end users to programme their heating system to come on and off at set times as per the BEIS requirements, it also allows the temperature to be set to achieve the greatest comfort in the home. That’s why, to ensure as many people benefit from this control as possible, we have included it in the box with every new Ariston Clas Net ONE boiler.”
Should installers require training on the new controls, Ariston also has that covered, as Alex explained: “At Ariston, we are committed to installer training, having invested in a network of UK training centres, each of which provide free gas boiler courses. Plus, there is comprehensive training on all our latest ‘smart’ controls – including Cube S Net – covering all the criteria of Boiler Plus, including load compensation, optimisation and weather compensation, as well as remote diagnostics. While Boiler Plus only applies to England, our courses are open to all installers throughout the UK and Ireland, enabling everyone to learn about the advanced features and benefits Ariston’s systems have to offer.”
