PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
Khasab hotel consist of one main building requiring 5,500 lt/day, the north block requiring 5,000 lt/day, 2 Type A building requiring 450 lt/day each, 6 private houses requiring 400 lt/day each.
The total quantity of 14,000 lt/day must be supplied at 60°C.

SOLAR SYSTEM DESIGN
The proposed solution consists of the following items for the different buildings.
 
MAIN BUILDING
• 28 solar collectors models KAIROS XP 2.5 -1
• 3 solar storages, (1x1.500lt + 2x2.000lt) MAXIS CD1 model
• 4 electric elements 6 kW to be used as heating back-up
• 4 solar pumps 25-120
• 2 ELIOS 25 control boards
• 4 expansion vessels 80 lt

NORTH BLOCK
• 32 solar collectors models KAIROS XP 2.5 -1
• 2 solar storages, MAXIS CD1 model, 2.500 lt volume each
• 2 electric elements 6 kW to be used as heating back-up
• 4 solar pumps 25-120
• 2 ELIOS 25 control boards
• 4 expansion vessels 80 lt

TYPE A BUILDINGS
• 6 KAIROS THERMO HF for flat roof installation, with 150 lt storage and 1 collector
• 6 electric elements of 1,5 kW each, to be used in the solar storage as heating back-up

PRIVATE HOUSES
• 4 KAIROS THERMO HF for flat roof installation, with 200 lt storage and 2 collectors
• 4 electric elements of 1,5 kW each, to be used in the solar storage as heating back-up for a total of 6 kW
 
ADVANTAGES OF THE SOLAR SOLUTION
This residential compound offers great possibility in terms of energy saving and design flexibility and stands out for the perfect mixing of different types of solar systems: natural circulation, forced circulation and safety back-up.
The layout of the installation has been designed specifically for each of the buildings taking into consideration the specific requirements.
The optimal solution is represented by the coexistence of two forced circulation systems (main and north building) together with a number of natural circulation systems (type A building and private houses) where the hot water supply demand was smaller.
In the forced circulation systems, ELIOS 25 control boards manages simultaneously all the components with the aim of achieving the highest efficiency while monitoring the safety of the system and each single component. In the natural circulation systems instead everything is
automatic, for the peace of mind of the end users.
All the collectors, both for natural and forced circulation, are facing south and have been installed with a tilt angle of 30°C to maximize the performance.
In fact all the systems in the 4 different type of buildings are working with 70% solar fraction or higher.

Considering the requirements of the whole Khasab Hotel, this translates in a significant saving of money and energy: of the 269.000 kWh/year required to ensure domestic comfort, 190.000 kWh/ year are provided by the sun for free.
The energy saved is equivalent to 114.000 kg/year of CO2 not polluting the environment we’re living in.
