The global energy challenge
There is increasing pressure worldwide for a major shift in energy and environmental trends in favour of energy saving mesures.
Between 1990 and 2012, global consumption of primary energy grew by around 40% in total, with total annual CO2 emissions increasing from 21 Gtoe to 29 Gtoe*. Between now and 2035, primary energy consumption, both residential and commercial, is estimated to grow by a third, driven mainly by the ‘emerging’ countries. As a result, CO2 emissions would increase by 20%: a trend that endangers the sustainability of our planet.
